My husband's Aunt & Uncle (would that make them my Aunt & Uncle-inlaws? I have no idea.) had their whole family under one roof over the holidays and wanted to seize the moment to get some family pictures done. Aren't they a photogenic bunch? I think the photo of them all on the river under the bridge is my favorite. They are such a warm family to be around. Really, truly.

A couple weeks ago I got to do my first engagement shoot. The snow was light and fluffy and pretty magical. All told, we probably had 20 minutes dedicated to their photos but they had old cross-country skis and perfect wooly sweaters that they snagged from their folks. The Scandanavian in me certainly loves a good wintery ski and it didn't take long behind the lens to capture their genuine & warm smiles of loving admiration. Love it!
Any families or couples out there eager for some fresh photos in the new year? I'd love to help you out with that. Until Christmas I am selling 1 hr photo session vouchers for $75 (to be redeemed in 2013) to put in your loved one's stocking. Come one, come all and let me take your picture!

Then I got to take a few family pictures of their whole crew! They're a good looking family, don't you agree?

It is no lie, I greatly prefer shooting in natural light but sometimes, you gotta work with the cards you are dealt. Last Friday night I was asked to bring my camera to a friend's show and treated to a pint of good brew. The lighting was alright but from where I was seated it was a challenge to get any decent close-ups. I'm proud to say that I am getting more confident shooting in manual and I was able to adjust the ISO to where it didn't wash out the faces entirely or make it look like everyone was in the dark.
It was a wonderful show and the atmosphere was great. It kind of felt like over 100 people were in a living-room together. Attentive and ready listeners just enjoying a Friday night, what a treat.

It has been fun and challenging to learn my new camera and the wizardry of Photoshop. In June I purchased my first SLR (a Canon Rebel T3i) and I couldn't be more thrilled with it. The sound of the shutter, the weight of it in my hands, the crisp & clean photos it takes. There really is nothing like it and it is just right for me.
Thank goodness I have dear friends that don't mind a newbie taking their photos just for heck of it. Thank goodness for a ridiculously good looking family that just shine. They made my job pretty easy, I must say. In August they welcomed another little man into their family and we snagged a beautiful autumn day to capture their new days together. Seriously, can you believe the cheeks on little Atticus? He is too cute, to be sure.
It is a wonderful thing to witness the beauty of a family in love. They are head-over-heels for one another and truly grateful for the good life they share. They also make music together. You can check it out HERE, but be prepared for lyrics and melodies that resonate deep and wide.
