Great shows and dim lighting.

It is no lie, I greatly prefer shooting in natural light but sometimes, you gotta work with the cards you are dealt.  Last Friday night I was asked to bring my camera to a friend's show and treated to a pint of good brew.  The lighting was alright but from where I was seated it was a challenge to get any decent close-ups.  I'm proud to say that I am getting more confident shooting in manual and I was able to adjust the ISO to where it didn't wash out the faces entirely or make it look like everyone was in the dark.

It was a wonderful show and the atmosphere was great.  It kind of felt like over 100 people were in a living-room together.  Attentive and ready listeners just enjoying a Friday night, what a treat.

the Elzen-Hoskyn family and baby Atticus

Well it is about time to get this party started, am I right?  This is the most recent, family-shoot I did with some friends and it was a good time!

It has been fun and challenging to learn my new camera and the wizardry of Photoshop.  In June I purchased my first SLR (a Canon Rebel T3i) and I couldn't be more thrilled with it. The sound of the shutter, the weight of it in my hands, the crisp & clean photos it takes.  There really is nothing like it and it is just right for me.

Thank goodness I have dear friends that don't mind a newbie taking their photos just for heck of it.  Thank goodness for a ridiculously good looking family that just shine.  They made my job pretty easy, I must say.  In August they welcomed another little man into their family and we snagged a beautiful autumn day to capture their new days together.  Seriously, can you believe the cheeks on little Atticus?  He is too cute, to be sure.

It is a wonderful thing to witness the beauty of a family in love.  They are head-over-heels for one another and truly grateful for the good life they share.  They also make music together.  You can check it out HERE, but be prepared for lyrics and melodies that resonate deep and wide.

Welcome!

Hi.  I'm Erika and I love taking pictures.  Photography has been a sincere hobby of mine for many years; however, my first-year of motherhood made this creative outlet go bonkers.  I love capturing moments that are spontaneous, simple, magical, and routine.  It is a thrill and a privilege to document the rhythms of love, birth, creativity, and family-life in my own home and others.  Storytelling through a lens is my favorite.

Please say hello!
